Canada Address Format For an Apartment

The correct Canada address format for an apartment helps the mail service read your address correctly and ensures that it is delivered on time. This can save costs, reduce delays and misplacements, and improve the sustainability of your letters and direct mail.

The first line of the Canada address format should be the name, city, and province of the recipient. You can also include honorific titles if you wish to, though these aren't always required.

Your recipient's street address, if applicable, should be on the second line of the Canada address format. The street address should contain the city, province, and postal code. If the recipient lives in a townhouse, you may not have to provide the postal code.

Secondary unit designators can be mentioned, but should never be overwritten and should be formatted correctly to prevent delivery delays. Among these is the unit number, which should be used for apartment and suite addresses.

You should mention the street type if you live on the street, as well as other street directions such as N, S, E, W, and NE. These abbreviations are important for Canada Post's automated equipment to process addresses quickly and accurately.

In addition, if you have a rural route, you should write the rural route identifier and station information on the second line of the address. The third line should be the civic address, but this should be over the PO box address as sorting equipment reads addresses from the bottom up.
